Former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik on Monday said Opposition MPs’ demand for a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the situation in Manipur is “right”, and the Prime Minister should indeed make a statement in Parliament.
He said the “Chief Minister (N Biren Singh) does not have the right to remain in power for even a minute, as he himself has said such incidents are occurring”, and he “should be removed immediately”.
Malik also said it is “very sad” that the Prime Minister could not the find time to go Manipur and “wipe the tears of the people” in the violence-hit state. That is why, he asserted, Parliament is not functioning.
Addressing an event, Malik said, “Saansadon ki bahut sahi maang hai ki manniya Pradhanmantri-ji ayen aur yahan bayan den to charcha ho jayegi. Pradhanmantri pata nahin kyon Sansad se sharmate hain. Unko jana chahiye; bayan dena chahiye. Sansad ki sidiyon par khade hokar to who bole, aur who bhi tab bole jab Chief Justice ne chetawani de di. Isse pahle nahin bole thhe (The MPs demand is right. The Prime Minister should give a statement. I don’t know why he is shying away from Parliament. He should go [to the House] and make a statement. He spoke outside Parliament — and that, too, after a word of caution from the Chief Justice [of India]. He did not speak before that.”
