Maharashtra policemen to get full day’s salary if weekly off cancelled

At present the police personnel who are made to work on a holiday are given allowance of Rs 68 to Rs 105 varying on rank from police constable to police inspector. Now, the revised allowance will be Rs 490 to Rs Rs 902.

Fadnavis, who also holds the important home portfolio, told the state legislative assembly, “The police personal are often made to work on their weekly off days. They often have to report on duty for bandobast (security) at distance places away from their home.”

Admitting there is a shortage of manpower and greater responsibility, the police personal have to take to fields at the short notices. As a result, the government believes they deserve better allowances for reporting to duty on holiday.

Interestingly, the revision of police personal’s allowance comes into effect after eleven years. In the past, the Congress-NCP government had often discussed this issue in the cabinet. But the allowances were not revised.

Fadnavis believes, “Since the police personal on holiday works full time, they surely have to be compensated with full days salary and not dismissed with meagre allowance.”
