The ban on gutkha and pan masala across Maharashtra would come into effect from Friday. This was stated by Food and Drugs Administration Minister Manohar Naik. The decision to impose the ban on these two tobacco-based products was taken by state cabinet last week as their consumption leads to oral cancer. The state had earlier twice tried to stop the sale of gutkha near schools and colleges,but the decisions were stayed by the courts.
