Days after the opposition Maha Vikas Agadhi’s (MVA) poll rout, the Congress Friday submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission of India flagging “glaring inconsistencies” relating to Maharashtra’s voter data.

The two issues mentioned in the memorandum are regarding “arbitrary deletion of voters and subsequent addition of over 10,000 voters in each constituency from the final voter lists”, and “inexplicable increase in voting percentages on the day of polling”.

The party also sought an urgent in-person hearing to raise all our issues in detail. “In fact, apart from the two issues mentioned herein, there are several other constituency specific issues which we would like to raise before this Commission,” it added.

The MVA managed to win only 46 seats in the recent Assembly poll results in the state. This inclues the Shiv Sena-UBT’s 20, the Congress’s 16 and NCP-SP’s 10.

“Questions relating to Maharashtra’s voter data have also been raised by a former Chief Election Commissioner, hence we are bringing the same to the attention of this Hon’ble Commission,” the memorandum signed by Maharashtra Congress leaders Nana Patole, Ramesh Chennithala and Mukul Wasnik read.

In reference to voting percentages the party claimed that there was an “inexplicable increase” from 5 pm to the final voter percentage declared by the EC at 11.30 pm on the day of polling.
