The Lok Sabha on Monday approved amendments to the Finance Bill 2023 as recommended by the Rajya Sabha amid sloganeering by Opposition members. Soon after the lower House reassembled at 4pm, Opposition members came into its Well and started sloganeering. Dressed in black to protest against Congress member Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from the Lok Sabha, the Opposition MPs carried placards that read “Democracy in Danger” and raised slogans such as “Modi, Adani bhai bhai” against the government. Rama Devi, who was in the chair, informed the House that several members had given notices for adjournment but the Lok Sabha speaker had not allowed any of them. Amid the din, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman moved an amendment recommended by the Rajya Sabha to the Finance Bill 2023 for the Lok Sabha's consideration. The upper House had recommended an amendment to clause 174 of the Bill. It was approved by the Lok Sabha with a voice vote. After that, the House was adjourned till 11am Tuesday.
