Describing the violence in Darjeeling and police firing in Dooars as unfortunate,Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee today appealed to the people there to maintain peace.
I would like to appeal to the people of the hills to maintain peace and have cordial relations with the people in the plains, the Railway minister said while commenting on the Darjeeling situation.
We dont support firing and violence. What has happened in Darjeeling is unfortunate. Any death is regrettable, she said,referring to the death of two persons in the police firing at Sikchu of Dooars and the violence in Darjeeling.
The Trinamool chief said it was important to ensure that such incidents did not recur.
Banerjee said as a human being and not as a politician,she was making demand for a probe into the incident,punishment to the guilty and adequate compensation to the affected people.
It has become a practice to delve into the politics of division before elections in our state and for last 25-30 years,this is happening, Banerjee said.
