WB govt reviews Naxals rehabilitation package

These benefits would be available to those with a family income of below Rs 24,000 annually.

The West Bengal government today decided to release Rs 50 lakh per day for supplying rice at Rs 2 per kg and bicycles for girl students under the rehabilitation package for surrendered Maoists.

These benefits would be available to those with a family income of below Rs 24,000 annually,Home Secretary Samar Ghosh said while reviewing implementation of the rehabilitation package for the ultras announced two months ago in Maoist-hit West Midnapore,Bankura and Purulia districts.

Ghosh said the distribution of ration cards which had progressed satisfactorily,would be completed by the month end.

Additional foodgrains would be supplied through PDS along with rice at Rs 2 per kg,he said.

West Midnapore district alone had 1.45 lakh beneficiaries,while another 45,000 would be added from Bankura and Purulia districts.

While a hostel each for boys and girls have come up in Ramgarh area under West Midnapore district with the help of sports and education departments,24 other hostels would come up in the three districts,he said.

Recruitment of para-teachers was also continuing in these districts to fill up 417 vacancies,he added.

The review was made at a meeting by Chief Secretary Ardhendu Sen,the Home Secretary and Finance Secretary.
