Top leaders own millions but not a car

UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi,who is contesting from Rae Barelli,has Rs 1.38 crore of assets and a house in Italy but no vehicle.

Heir apparent of the Nehru-Gandhi family,Rahul is richer by about a crore than his mother Sonia but seems to have no fetish for vehicles.

NCP chief Sharad Pawar,also a prospective candidate for the top job in the country,is worth about Rs 7.86 crore but neither he nor his wife Pratibha has any vehicle.

Young BJP leader Varun Gandhi,worth Rs 4.82 crore,has also declared that he does not own a car.

Former Defence Minister and socialist leader George Fernandes and his spouse have movable and immovable assets worth over Rs 15.5 crore. But the leader does not have a vehicle.

Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav had declared assets worth over Rs 2.23 crore but he too does not own any vehicle. But the consolation is that his wife Sadhna Yadav owns a swanky Toyota Camry worth over Rs 17 Lakh and another car worth Rs 50,000.

Former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Farooq Abdullah’s flamboyance reflects in his choice of vehicle. The National Conference leader has two Sports Utility Vehicles in his name – Suzuki’s Grand Vitara and Mahidra’s Scorpio.

Railway Minister Lalu Prasad owns a 1990-make Maruti 800 and a military disposal Jeep of 1977 worth Rs 10,000. The austerity in vehicles is also followed by his wife Rabri Devi who does not have any vehicle in her name.

Minister for Steel,Chemical and Fertiliser Ram Vilas Paswan has a humble Ambassador whereas his wife Reena Paswan has a Maruti Suzuki Zen.
