Suspense hangs over Abhishek Singhvi's continuance as Congress spokesperson with the eminent lawyer being directed not to hold media briefings till the high command decides on the controversy over his appearance in a lottery case in Kerala High Court. "The party has taken serious note of it (Singhvi's action). The matter is under consideration of the party and therefore,it is implied that he will perhaps not brief.," party General Secretary Janardhan Dwivedi said here. The remarks of Dwivedi, who is also AICC media department chairperson, came when reporters asked him whether Singhvi has been barred from holding media briefings till a decision is taken on the issue. Singhvi's appearance in the case had raised a storm in the state unit which had launched a campaign against promoters of lotteries from outside the state and senior state Congress leaders had complained to AICC over his action. The ruling Left Democratic Front and the Congress-led United Democratic Front in Kerala have been engaged in a wordy duel over the lottery issue in the last few months. Singhvi, who is also the Deputy Chairman of the AICC media department, had earlier maintained that he was appearing for the Government of Bhutan in support of a Central government enactment and regulation of 2010 and it had nothing to do with politics. Later he announced his decision to withdraw from the case to "avoid any communication gap or controversy". The ruling LDF had seized the issue as a weapon to strike back at the Congress-led UDF which has taken the lotteries as one of the major issues in the campaign for civic polls this month. Reacting to the development,Singhvi today said that he will always remain an "obedient" Congress worker. "The Congress high command is always final. I am and will remain an obedient Congress worker," he said.
