A severe cold wave on Sunday swept Punjab and Haryana as the minimum temperature dipped at many places,with Narnaul reeling at 1 degree Celsius while heavy fog affected normal life at many places.
As freezing cold gripped Narnaul in Haryana,the minimum temperature there dropped five degrees below normal,a MeT official said here.
Ambala,too,came under the influence of piercing chill by registering a low of 2.3 degree Celsius,down by five notches,while Hisar experienced a cold night at 4.6 degree Celsius,down by one degree.
Bhiwani recorded a minimum temperature of 5 degree Celsius,down one notch,while Rohtak registered a low of 5.8 degree Celsius.
The chill also swept Chandigarh,which recorded a minimum temperature of 5.4 degree Celsius,down one degree.
In Punjab,icy winds restricted the mercury to 3.4 degree Celsius,down four degrees,while the minimum temperature at Amritsar was 4.1 degree Celsius.
The cold wave also continued unabated in Ludhiana,which settled at a minimum temperature of 4.6 degree Celsius,down one degree.
The MeT department said heavy fog reduced visibility early today at Amritsar,Ludhiana and Patiala in Punjab and at Hisar,Karnal,Rohtak and Bhiwani in Haryana.
According to reports,normal movement of vehicular traffic was also affected at many places due to fog.
