Accusing the then Prime Minister P V Narsimha Rao of failing to take a right decision,Indian death row prisoner in Pakistan Sarabjit Singh’s sister Dalbir Kaur on Monday said they would not have seen these days if a right move was made that time. On her way to Ajmer to offer a chadar at the dargah,Kaur told reporters that “if the then Prime Minister P V Narsimha Rao had taken the right decision about his release,we would not have seen these days”. She was accompanied by her husband and Sarabjit’s two daughters.
The chadar carries a message in Hindi — “Ya Mere Garib Nawaj Dargah Sharif,Karwa Do Insaf,Sarabjit Ki Fansi Janab Zardari Se Karwa Do Maf”. She also appealed to the Centre to make all efforts for the release of his brother without any further delay. “We have submitted before the Supreme Court in Pakistan all documents to prove that he is innocent,” she said, adding “relations between the two countries would be better if my brother is pardoned”. Kaur will submit an appeal addressed to President Asif Ali Zardari through a Pakistani delegation in Ajmer. Sarbjit (43),who is languishing in a Pakistan jail for the last 18 years, got a new lawyer days after his appeal against capital punishment was dismissed. He was set to be hanged on April one last year, though Pakistani authorities put off his execution indefinitely after Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani’s intervention.
