A delegation of farmers from Phalodi sub-district,accusing three firms from Mumbai and New Delhi of “stealing” their land,on Tuesday threatened to start a fast unto death if their demands were not met by the Rajasthan government.
The farmers held a ‘mahapadav’ in Baap sub-tehsil and issued an ultimatum to the government that if their 11 demands, including abolition of the ‘anywhere registration system’,were not met within 15 days, they would start a fast unto death.
They also submitted a memorandum favouring the Governor, chief minister and the revenue minister.
They demanded revocation of all the deals, strict action against the government staff involved in the ‘racket’ and providing of record of land deals of the region of past two years.
Former MP of Jodhpur Jaswant Singh Bishnoi, who also attended this meeting, said that it was a huge racket in which almost entire Baap sub-tahsil (17 villages) has been sold and the farmers have lost their only source of income.
The meeting was addressed by many BJP leaders, including former revenue minister Ram Narayan Dudi,MP (Bikaner) Arjun Ram Meghwal,MLA (Bilara) Arjun Ram Garg among others.
The Divisional Commissioner of Jodhpur R K Jain, who has been entrusted with the inquiry of the scam said the administration has already put a check on the mutation of any land as a precautionary measure and is collecting details.
DM (Jodhpur) Siddharth Mahajan said that most of the deals have been executed through power of attorneys which can be easily revoked by the owner of the land himself but as far as the sale agreements and registries are concerned, they will have to take up the legal course.
The farmers have been demanding exemption from this legal course and have also asked for a mass revocation of all these deals.
Meanwhile, significant leads have been obtained from the interrogation of Arjun Meghwal, who was arrested by the SIT constituted to investigate the scam.
He was produced before the magistrate and was remanded to the police custody.
