Delhi received 44.10 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours,which is 19.2 mm more than the previous day,resulting in the water level of river Yamuna breaching the danger mark.

Yamuna is now flowing at a level of 205.05 metres,which makes it 22 cm above the danger level of 204.83 metres.

A major chunk of the rainfall received in the last 24 hours,an estimated 26.7 mm came between 5:30 pm on Saturday to 8:30 am on Sunday.

Around 500 people living close to the river bank have been shifted to camps that have been set up in safer areas,according to officials.

Some 20 camps have been set up to provide shelter to the people affected by the rise in water level,and arrangements for medical and food facilities have been made,an official said.

According to weather officials,clouds are not yet in a mood to relent and more rains are expected over the day.

Met office said the next 24 hours are likely to see a generally cloudy sky with a few spells of rain or thundershower,one or two of which may be heavy.

Heavy showers also resulted in the maximum temperature dropping to 28.4 degree Celsius,which is six degrees below normal.

The minimum also fell and was recorded at 25.8 mm as against Sunday’s 26.8 degree Celsius.

Humidity too was very high between 98 and 94 per cent.

The city has been receiving heavy rains continuously for the past four days.

Many districts of Rajasthan,including the desert region,have recorded above normal rainfall this season.

On an average,west region of the state,comprising Bikaner and Jodhpur divisions,receives 195 mm rainfall but this year till date it has recorded 336 mm rainfall which is 72 per cent above normal,Met officials said here today.

Jaisalmer district received maximum rainfall so far recording 163 per cent above normal followed by Barmer which has recorded 108 per cent above normal rainfall.

In East region,comprising Ajmer,Kota,Udaipur and Jaipur divisions,rainfall is 3 per cent above normal.

The state’s capital city has recorded 28 per cent above normal rains.

Twelve districts – Banswara,Baran,Bharatpur,Bhilwara,Bundi,Dholpur,Doongerpur,Jhalawar,Karauli,Kota,Pratapgarh and Sawaimadhopur – have recorded less than average rainfall.

Baran and Jhalawar received 33 per cent below normal rainfall,and Banswara recorded 32 per cent,they said.

Meanwhile,Vansathali,Sawaimadhopur,Pilani and Jaipur recorded 111.4,41,31.2 and 13.7 mm rainfall respectively till this morning since yesterday.

Several other places,including Ajmer,Sikar,Kota,Rawatbhata,Banswara,Chittorgarh,Jodhpur,Mount Abu,Churu and Gangangar recorded 11.4 mm to 5 mm rainfall.

Met has predicted very heavy rainfall in parts of Eastern region of the state.

Rains continue to lash Punjab and Haryana

Moderate to heavy rains continued to lash most places in Punjab and Haryana,with the water level of the already swollen Yamuna river further increasing on Sunday.

In Sonepat,several villages along the river’s embankment have been put on alert while in Yamunanagar too,situation in many flood-prone villages is being closely monitored,officials said.

Following the release of 3.2 lakh cusecs of water from the Hathnikund barrage near Yamunanagar,there has been no let up in the fury of Yamuna near Sonepat in Haryana,a report said.

During the past two days,there have been heavy rains in the catchment area of Yamuna river in the upper hills of Himachal Pradesh.

Sonepat Deputy Commissioner Ajit Balaji Joshi said the villagers living in the low-lying areas and those along the embankments were being regularly informed about the water level so that they can be prepared for evacuation,if needed.

In Haryana,rains lashed Sonepat,Gurgaon,Ambala,Kalka,Panchkula,Yamunanagar,Faridabad,Karnal and Panipat.

In Punjab,places which will receive heavy rainfall includes Mohali,Ropar,Hoshiarpur,Moga and Ferozepur.
