Posting at VIP wedding delays FIR against Deshprabhu: BJP

The property where mining is being carried out, belongs to Deshprabhu.

Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) alleged that police could not register FIR on Sunday against the NCP national general secretary Jitendra Deshprabhu, allegedly involved in the illegal mining case,as they were busy providing security at the wedding of the Chief Minister Digambar Kamat’s son.

BJP Goa spokesperson Rajendra Arlekar alleged that the police could not register FIRs in time as they were posted at the VIP wedding.

Arlekar said,”Involvement of NCP leaders in the illegal mining activity is a matter of serious concern. When BJP legislator Dayanand Sopte had personally visited Pernem police station to inquire about the FIR,he was squarely told that the PI is on a long leave and PSI is busy with the wedding of chief minister’s son,he said.

On Saturday,Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Pernem had asked the local police to file FIR against Deshprabhu and others including the Director of Mines for the illegal bauxite mining in Korgao village.

The property where mining is being carried out, belongs to Deshprabhu. The State Mines and Geology Department has already ordered to compound Rs 1.7 crore from him for the illegal mining.

BJP has also alleged that one of the reasons behind the delay in taking down an FIR in this regard is also due to the involvement of Ritesh, son of State home minister Ravi Naik, who has bagged a contract to extract bauxite at Deshprabhu’s property.
