Ranvir Sena chief Brahmeshwar Singh alias Mukhiyaji, who was gunned down on June 1,might have been shot dead by a hired killer as so far nothing has suggested the involvement of his arch rivals — the Maoists.
Quoting Intelligence reports, official sources said the killing was a “hit and run” job and it could not be ruled out that it was a political murder.
The reports also did not suggest the involvement of Maoists, arch rivals of Ranvir Sena. However,Intelligence agencies could not conclude who could be behind the murder and who could have benefited from his killing.
Sources said while in jail,Mukhiyaji had reportedly patched up with the incarcerated Maoists cadres and both sides did not provide any evidence against each other in the courts leading to the release of the Ranvir Sena chief and a few Maoists leaders from prison.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Personnel is likely to issue a notification soon for the formal take over of the case by CBI.
Bowing to Opposition demand,Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has already recommended a CBI probe into the killing of the Ranvir Sena supremo.
Initially, the CBI was reluctant to take over the case citing unavailability of investigators and requested the Bihar government to send a few police officers on deputation to CBI which the state government agreed to.
Mukhiyaji was shot dead while he was taking a stroll near his house in Khopira village in Bhojpur district last Friday.
