Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has compared fellow BJP leader and his Gujarat counterpart Narendra Modi with Sardar Vallabhai Patel, known as India’s iron man. “The stature and work of Shri Narender Modi can only be compared with Sardar Patel,” Chouhan tweeted. Chouhan’s tweet came a day before Modi’s mega rally in Hyderabad to kick off the BJP’s election campaign for the 2014 general elections.
Modi was recently anointed as the BJP’s national election campaign chief. Taking strong exception to the comparison made by Chouhan between Modi and Sardar Patel,Rashid Alvi said that it is a severe disrespect to the freedom fighter. “If anyone compares Narendra Modi to Sardar Patel,I believe it is disrespect to Sardar Patel. Sardar Patel spent his life in jails for the independence of this country,” Alvi said.
“Sardar Patel was not merely a Minister,he was not merely the Deputy Prime Minister,he was a big freedom fighter. This kind of comparison is extremely unfortunate,” he added.
Addressing a rally in Hyderabad,Modi praised Chauhan
for the kind of developmental work being undertaken in
BJP-ruled Mahdya Pradesh.
“Go to Madhya Pradesh and see the developmental
programme for the girl child,” he said. Senior BJP leader L K Advani recently praised Modi and Chouhan in the same breath saying the two chief ministers have provided good governance in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
The remarks were significant as Advani, who is not on
the best of terms with Modi and had even resigned from all
party posts after he was made the poll campaign head, last
week skipped a crucial meeting of BJP with RSS in Delhi though
the BJP said it was because of his prior commitments.
The BJP stalwart had recently said that states where BJP
was in power,be it the Narendra Modi-led government in
Gujarat or Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Madhya Pradesh–were doing
good. He said the party will go the people in the coming Lok
Sabha polls on the plank of good governance.
Advani said be it Modi government or Shivraj Singh
Chouhan’s or Raman Singh’s,they were giving good governance.
Raman Singh is the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh.
