Mirchpur residents remain adamant,protests continue

A heavy police and para-military force had been deployed here and in parts of Hisar.

Security personnel kept a vigil as Mirchpur residents on Sunday refused to budge from rail tracks here and disrupted road traffic in Hisar demanding a fresh probe into the killing of a Dalit father-daughter duo in the village last year which had led to the booking of 98 Jats.

A heavy police and para-military force had been deployed here and in parts of Hisar as a precautionary measure to prevent violence.

A meeting of representatives of cross-section of society appealed to the members of the Jat community to call off their stir as the matter was sub-judice but to no avail,officials said.

Besides,efforts were made by administrative officials to bring peace and pursuade protesters to call off their sit-ins at different places.

However,the members of the pre-dominant Jat community held protests at around 35 different places in Jind district including at various link roads,the Jat heartland of Haryana.

An uneasy calm prevailed in neighbouring Hisar district with police keeping a tight vigil.

Traffic on several state highways and national roads passing through Jind was disrupted with bus services remaining paralysed in view of protests by the community members,who remained adamant on their demands.

The protestors blocked the Hisar-Delhi National Highway and the Hisar-Chandigarh highway at village Mayyar and village Sarsod respectively for the second day today disrupting road traffic on the two important highways connecting Hisar with the national capital and the state capital.

The protesters also blocked the Hisar-Rewari railway route for the second day today,official sources said.

The railway authorities had yesterday cancelled all the trains on Hisar-Rewari section till further orders as the the protesters were sitting on a dharna on the railway line near village Ramayan on Hisar-Bhiwani route,the sources said.

A high-level meeting was held today at Hisar in which top officials of the civil and police administration took part to take stock of the situation.
