Karat played ‘double role’ during last UPA rule: Amar

SP accused CPM General Secretary Prakash Karat of playing a 'double role' during the previous UPA government.

Samajwadi Party accused CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat of playing a “double role” during the previous UPA government and cited this as the reason for not associating with the Left this time.

“Ask Prakash Karat. He played a double role during the previous government. For four-and-a-half years,he was with UPA as well as in the opposition and that is why he is nowhere today,” SP General Secretary Amar Singh told reporters when asked why his party did not sit in the Opposition along with the Left this time.

Showing unhappiness with CPI(M),he said when SP was not an UPA ally,it was “harassed” but Left did not care.

“When we did not support Congress,we faced CBI cases, telephone tappings and allegations under Office of Profit,” he said.

Singh said if CPI(M) had joined SP when it had formed the Third Front last year, the alliance would have got a firm footing and blamed CPI(M) for the failure of the United National Progressive Alliance (UNPA).
