Tension erupted in Hisar district of Haryana on Wednesday,following the death of a Jat man,allegedly in police firing yesterday.
20-year-old Sandeep was killed while taking part in the ongoing Jat agitation — during a fierce four-hour clash between agitators and the police. Five others suffered bullet injuries in the protests yesterday.
Thousands hit the streets in Hisar on Wednesday morning,the mob growing increasingly violent as the day wore on. There were reports of protests from Jind and Bhiwani too.
In Hisar,the mob torched a police post — the Hisar cantonment — and looted an SBI ATM. Hisar deputy commissioner Amit Agarwal said the state had asked the Centre to call in the Army to contain the violence.
The official vehicle of Sessions Judge,Jind,was also set on fire near Hisar late last night. Over a Lakh men,women and children have camped on the Mayyar railway track,demanding Sandeep’s body be allowed to be kept on track,till the chief minister accepts the Jats’ demands.
As the Jat agitation took a violent turn with protestors setting on fire the car of a district judge,authorities today announced closure of all educational institutions for three days.
