In an effort to safeguard Indians against terror attacks in Kabul, government is in the process of building a well-protected chancery cum living quarters in the Afghan capital which will house over 500 people. Besides an increase in security personnel posted in Kabul, the new establishment will be protected by the best anti-sabotage technology to prevent any casualty in case of a terror attack, sources said. The construction is being carried out on a piece of land that India had bought in 1963 in the diplomatic area, where the US and the UK had built their embassies and living places. Boom-barriers,refurbished walls to withstand impact of a bomb blast and infra-red CCTV cameras among others would also be put into place besides multi-layered commando security. The protected complex will also act as an office cum home area for government officials involved in developmental work in the war ravaged country, the sources said. The move comes after India decided to rework its strategy on its presence there while continuing with the developmental projects to which it has affirmed its commitment. About 4,000 Indians are engaged in reconstruction projects in health, power, roads 1and social sector across Afghanistan.
