I haven’t given clean chit to Buta: Maha CM

Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan said there was no question of interfering in CBI investigations.

Stating that he had not given a clean chit to former Union Home Minister Buta Singh whose son has been arrested in a bribery case,Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan on Monday said there was no question of interfering in CBI investigations.

What Singh was reading out during his press conference yesterday may have been a newspaper report. It is certainly not my letter because I have not issued any letter to him,Chavan said, responding to Singh’s claim that he had given him a clean chit.

Singh, who is the Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC),had cited an alleged statement by Chavan supporting him in the case.

“I don’t have to say anything on the CBI probe against him. The law will take its own course. Let CBI or police do its duty,I have not given him a clean chit,” the Chief Minister said.

“I have not made any remarks supporting Singh in the case. I don’t know the background of the (bribery) case.

Whatever he has done may be in his personal capacity, neither Congress party nor me as Chief Minister or an individual has anything to do with it,” Chavan said.

“If there is indeed such a letter stating that I have supported him,he should make it public or show it on TV channels,” the Chief Minister said.
