Hotelier case: BJP accuses Home Minister of misleading people

BJP alleged that Chidambaram ordered closure of FIRs against a businessman whom was his client.

BJP charged Home Minister P Chidambaram with misleading people on the issue of withdrawing of FIRs against a Delhi-based hotelier and announced that it would take the matter to logical conclusion.

Former BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday alleged that the Home Minister and Home Secretary (apparently referring to former Home Secretary G K Pillai) have misled the people.

“We are not going to leave this matter like this. We will take it to its logical conclusion. We want the person who has misused his office to save an accused cannot continue as Home Minister,” Naidu said.

BJP has alleged that as Home Minister,P Chidambaram had ordered the closure of FIRs against a businessman whom he had earlier represented as a lawyer. The Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court had earlier turned down the pleas for quashing of the FIRs.

Chidambaram issued a clarification yesterday, saying he was hurt by the charges levelled against him by BJP and maintained that he did not even remember his ex-client.
