With parties busy giving final touches to their campaign ahead of the crucial January 30 Assembly polls, the Kotdwara constituency of Uttarakhand has turned into a political hotspot owing to frequent visits by VIP campaigners.
After grabbing the limelight with the contention of Chief Minister B C Khanduri, the constituency is seeing a spree of allegations and counter-allegations in the high voltage poll rallies addressed by some top campaigners from different parties in the fray.
Senior BJP leader and party general secretary Ravi Shankar Prasad,Union minister C P Joshi and Congress MP Vijay Bahuguna were some of the star campaigners who addressed gatherings in different parts of the constituency yesterday in support of their candidates.
Prasad, who addressed a rally in support of Khanduri, slammed the Congress for allegedly blocking state’s development.
Accusing it of opposing the Lokpal Bill introduced by the state government,Prasad alleged that Congress-led Union government scrapped the special industrial package given to the state by the earlier NDA government.
C P Joshi, who was campaigning for Congress candidate S S Negi in Bhabar, was quick to counter, accusing BJP of misleading people in the name of corruption. Joshi said the party itself had to change its chief minister following charges of graft.
Another senior Congress leader and party MP from Tehri,Vijay Bahuguna claimed the BJP has already lost the battle by making it a Khanduri versus Congress affair.
Addressing a gathering here at Jhandicahur, son of former UP chief minister Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna claimed that the people of Kotdwar will make history by defeating Khanduri, thereby giving a message that not the person, but development is necessary.
