Ex-MP fumes over website linking him to 72 scams

A former Member of Parliament has registered a case with the cyber cell of the Delhi Police alleging that a popular website uploaded “libelous information” about him and his family.

A former Member of Parliament has registered a case with the cyber cell of the Delhi Police alleging that a popular website uploaded “libelous information” about him and his family. The website,according to him,claims that he and his wife were involved in more than 72 scams.

On July 21,Chandra Vijay Singh,ex-MP from Moradabad and currently a Congress party member,contacted the website alleging that the information uploaded was “libelous and completely incorrect”.

He alleged that the website and its other links mentioned of his involvement in forgery,land scams and several high profile cases including the kidney racket in 2008.

“Two days after I approached them,they removed the matter. However,I again came across the same matter in other links. I am deeply troubled and wonder who would go to such an extent to tarnish my family’s image. I am a man with morals. This is defamatory,” Singh told Newsline.

Later,when he realised that the website had not removed the matter,he approached the Delhi Police.

In his official statement to the police,Singh,the son of an ICS officer said,“These statements and imputations not only go beyond the realm of constructive criticism,but are prima facie untrue,false,grossly offensive and damaging to the complainant’s good name and reputation. The matter was again brought to the notice of the website,but to no avail; these statements appear till date…”

A senior police officer investigating the case said,“We have taken cognisance of the matter and are investigating the case. We are currently trying to identify the source from where the matter is being uploaded”.

Meanwhile,a spokesperson for the website clarified in an email to Newsline,“Our site is an encyclopedia… anyone can edit (written matter) from anywhere in the world and the foundation is not responsible for any information that is included in the encyclopedia.”
