ED seeks financial details from UK about Ramdev’s island

Directorate's probe is aimed at checking flow of money through various trusts floated by Ramdev.

Enforcement Directorate has approached the UK authorities seeking financial details about an island in Scotland ‘gifted’ to Yoga guru Ramdev by a disciple.

The Little Cumbrae Island,off the fishing town of Largs in Scotland,serves as Ramdev’s base overseas and also as a wellness centre.

The Directorate has asked the authorities in the United Kingdom (UK) to help it with the documentation and funding related aspects of the island which was gifted to Ramdev by a couple who is among his ardent followers.

The communication to UK is in connection with the money trail of the island,ED sources said.

The Directorate’s probe is aimed at checking the flow of money and transactions through various trusts floated by Ramdev including the Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust,Divya Yoga Mandir Trust and Bharat Swabhiman Trust.

The agency,after completing the probe,may decide to formally register a case under the provisions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) or the stringent Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA),if findings show anything unlawful,they said.

ED has earlier also asked the Registrar of Companies (RoC) to obtain details of companies related to Ramdev.

Meanwhile,Ramdev’s close aide Balkrishna,who allegedly used fake educational degrees for procuring a passport,was on Wednesday questioned by the CBI in Dehradun.
