Delhi HC makes public assets of its judges

The Delhi High Court,which gave a landmark ruling that the Chief Justice of India was within the ambit of RTI Act,made public assets of its judges.

The Delhi High Court,which gave a landmark ruling that the Chief Justice of India was within the ambit of RTI Act,today made public assets of its judges.

All the 42 judges,including the Chief Justice A P Shah,placed the details of their assets on the high court’s website. Delhi High Court has thus become the third High Court to make public assets of their judges after Kerala and Madras.

The Supreme Court had last year put the details of their judges’ assets on the website.

The development took place in the backdrop of Delhi High Court’s verdict in which it had said the judges declaration of assets to the their Chief Justices was mandatory and such information should be made public.

A bench headed by the Justice Shah had held on January 12 that CJI’s office comes in the ambit of Right to Information Act and the information on Judges’assets is to be made public.
