Day curfew lifted in Sopore,night curfew continues

The administration also disbursed ex-gratia cheques of Rs 1 lakh each to next of kin of those killed in the firing incidents.

Day curfew has been lifted in Sopore town following the improvement in situation,though night curfew would remain in force till further orders,an official spokesman said on Sunday.

“Day curfew has been lifted in the town but night curfew would remain in force till further orders,” the spokesman said.

Special Commissioner (North) M S Khan and Special IGP (North) Pankaj Saxena are camping and monitoring the situation in Sopore town,he said.

The administration also disbursed ex-gratia cheques of Rs One lakh each to the next of kin of those killed in the recent firing incidents. Four persons were killed in Sopore town on June 25 and 26 during clashes between protesters and security personnel.

Deputy Commissioner (Baramulla) Bashir Ahmed also reviewed the situation in the town.

Meanwhile,Minister of State for Revenue and Tourism,Nasir Aslam Wani,took stock of the law and order situation in Kupwara district at a meeting of officers. District Magistrate Showkat Ahmd Mir informed the minster that the situation was under control. The situation in Trehgam which also witnessed protests is also under control,he said.

Earlier,Wani sought the cooperation of civil society in restoring normalcy in the district when he visited Handwara to review the law and order situation.
