Dara encounter: IPS officer suspended

Raj govt has suspended senior IPS officer A.K. Jain,wanted by CBI in connection with Dara Singh encounter.

Rajasthan government has suspended senior IPS officer A.K. Jain,wanted by CBI in connection with Dara Singh encounter killing case,official sources said.

Jain,who was removed from the post of Additional Director General (Home Guards) and was put under APO (awaiting posting orders) status on June 1,was suspended last night,they said.

“The officer is absent from duty since May 16. CBI had called Jain for interrogation on May 15 at the agency’s Jaipur office but he did not show up and since then his whereabouts are not known to anyone,” the sources said.

A local court has already issued a warrant against Jain who has also been named in charge sheet filed by CBI in a court here yesterday in connection with Singh killing.

CBI said Dara Singh was taken into illegal custody by the Special Operations Group officials,who have been named as accused in the charge sheet,from near Jaipur Airport and was taken to a lonely place near Amber where he was kept hostage and was killed in a planned manner near Rajendra Nagar here on October 23,2006.

Of the 16 officials named in the charge sheet,10 are absconding and among top officials only A Ponnuchammi is under judicial custody.

Other arrested policemen include Inspectors Nisar Khan and Naresh Sharma,Assistant Sub-Inspector Surendra Singh,Sub-Inspector Satyanarayan Godara and a retired sub-inspector Munshi Lal.
