However, the Congress today said that if the Prime Minister was brought under the Lokpal it would bring “inherent instability” in the democratic and parliamentary governance.

At the same time,Singhvi said that the Congress was not for per se exclusion of the Prime Minister under the Lokpal and he could be proceeded against after he demits office.

This is for the first time that the Congress has come out with its stand on the Lokpal issue as so far it was maintaining that it would go by whatever the Congress representatives in the government on the Joint Committee to draft the Lokpal bill will articulate.

While elaborating the stand,Singhvi was quick to add that it was not the final opinion and the party will go by the “collective will” of Parliament on the issue.
