Communal violence bill draconian: Hindu leader

He says Hindu religious heads feel that the bill will uproot religion, heritage and culture.

Describing the draft communal violence bill as “draconian”,a prominent Hindu leader today said he would undertake a mass awareness drive against the proposed legislation, which he said would create communal divide.

“This is a draconian bill, which is against fundamental rights and spirit of the Constitution,” Paramananda Maharaj of the Acharya Sabha told reporters here after a meeting with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and other prominent Hindu religious heads.

Terming the proposed bill as “one-sided”,he said,”We will create awareness to show that it will break communal harmony…Under the proposed law,one is treated as a criminal till he proves himself innocent…Those who framed the bill are not part of the government and neither is there a single MP in the panel which drafted it.”
