A Border Security Force constable, Prakash Chandra Sewal, who was injured in an IED blast in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district succumbed on Tuesday evening. Two polling team members who were also injured in the blast are said to be out of danger.
The blast took place near Rengagondi village around 4 pm on Monday, when they were on their way to setting up a polling booth for Tuesday’s first phase of Assembly elections.
Four teams composed of BSF, state police and a polling team had left the Marbeda police camp in the Chotebetiya police station limits for Rengaghati, where the Rengagondi polling station is situated.
BSF constable Sewal (36) and the two polling team members suffered injuries in the blast. “The injured have been taken to Chotebetiya for treatment. The team and security personnel have safely reached the Rengagondi polling booth,” an official had said.
Sewal was airlifted to Raipur for better treatment but succumbed on Tuesday evening. He hailed from Odisha.
