Four persons were killed and seven others were injured after they came in contact with a high tension wire during a Muharram procession in Bokaro’s Peterwar area in Jharkhand on Saturday morning.
The police said the accident happened around 6 am when a group of people were enroute to Khetko village. The tazia (a replica of the mausoleum of Imam Hussain made of iron) that the people were carrying which came in contact with a high-tension wire.
Bokaro Deputy Commissioner Kuldeep Chaudhary said, “Generally, the electricity is shut down during the processions and we will inquire why the same wasn’t done. Usually, the processions in the area do not carry iron structures.”
A police officer said, “Around 13 people were rushed to the hospital.” According to locals, the height of the tazia was around 15 feet. The deceased have been identified as Asif Raza, 21, Inamul Rab, 35, Ghulam Hussain, 18, and Sajid Ansari, 18.
Chaudhary added, “The seven injured are being treated and are stable.”
