Eighteen of the 33 pilgrims, who were injured in the militant attack on a bus in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday evening, have been identified and most of them belong to Uttar Pradesh.
The victims, including nine pilgrims who were killed, were on their way to Katra town after visiting Shiv Khori, a shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva near Ransoo when their bus was fired upon by militants. After the attack, Mohita Sharma, Senior Superintendent of Police, Reasi, said as the militants lying in wait fired on the bus, the driver lost control of the vehicle and it fell into a gorge.
According to officials, among the 33 injured, 17 people are from Uttar Pradesh and one is a resident of Delhi. The rest of the injured are yet to be identified.
Doctors treating them at Government Medical College Hospital, Jammu, said all of them are stable.
Except for Shivani, 24, who is from Delhi, three each are from UP’s Gonda, Meerut, and Balrampur, two are from Varanasi, and one each is from Ayodhya and Gorakhpur. Officials are yet to confirm where the four other injured pilgrims are from in Uttar Pradesh.
