‘India world-ready and world India-ready’: What leaders said on G20 Leadership Declaration

“On the back of the hard work of all the teams, we have received consensus on the G20 Leaders Summit Declaration. I announce the adoption of this declaration,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi told the G20 leaders in New Delhi.

The Day 1 of the G20 Summit in the national capital saw the adoption of the New Delhi G20 Leadership Declaration that focussed on issues that faces the bloc.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the leaders of the Summit, said, “On the back of the hard work of all the teams, we have received consensus on the G20 Leaders Summit Declaration. I announce the adoption of this declaration,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi told the G20 leaders in New Delhi.

The development was welcomed by several Union Ministers and officials, who said the “historic” document recognises Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on human-centric globalisation.

G20 sherpa Amitabh Kant took to social media platform X, formerly Twitter, to hail the New Delhi G20 Leadership declaration, calling it “Historical & Path breaking”. He said that the leaders reached 100% consensus on all developmental and geo-political issues.

Kant added that the new geopolitical paras were “a powerful call for Planet, People, Peace and Prosperity in today’s world”. Kant also said that “ruthless negotiations” on geopolitical issues had ensued for days but the issues clinched because of PM Modi’s leadership.

Hailing the consensus, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that this will make India ready for the world and the world for India. He added that India taking on the G20 presidency led to the Group of 20 prioritising the concerns of the ‘Global South’.

Jaishankar also said that the Summit has given clear directions for growth and development of a global economy. The interest in G20 proceedings has been particularly strong among the youth and it has been an opportunity to showcase India’s culture, traditions and heritage, according to the External Affairs Minister.

Focusing on the push towards multilateralism, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that India’s presidency of the G20 Summit and its outcomes were testimony to the country’s “commitment to multilateralism and international cooperation”. The declaration also includes points on ‘reinvigorating multilateralism’ and ‘multilateral institutions for the 21st century’.

The Finance Minister added that a global consensus was also emerging on a push for clearer policies for crypto assets. Sitharaman said that the solutions reached under India’s presidency resonates with each member and “offers a shared path forward for all”.
