YSR Congress Party, which is set to hold a dharna in New Delhi on Monday to push for the demand of special status for Andhra Pradesh, has said that the TDP is ignoring the vital issue for political and commercial gain.
“While it was categorically stated in Parliament by the minister concerned that the question of special status to Andhra Pradesh does not arise, none of the TDP MPs or ministers protested. Time and again, it was Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy who raised the issue with the President, Prime Minister and ministers concerned,” senior YSRCP leader Botsa Satyanarayana told reporters on Saturday.

Brushing aside charges that the dharna is politically motivated, he said that his party has been consistent in its demand of special status for the state, while the TDP has been silent. “The minister concerned and the Finance Minister have categorically stated that special status cannot be given to one state as per the Finance Commission recommendations. Outside the House, some BJP and TDP leaders tried to create a story that the restriction does not apply to Andhra Pradesh. If that’s the case, why are they not mounting pressure on the minister to rectify his statement?,” he asked.
The YSCRP leader said the dharna is part of the party’s action plan to “highlight the double standards of TDP and the delay by the Centre in according special status to the state.”
