Voters in the national capital can cast their ballot on the day of polling even if they do not have a voter identity card they can use 13 alternative photo documents to establish their identity.
The election authorities in Delhi on Saturday said 13 alternative identity proof would be used to establish the identity of voters if they failed to produce the Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) at the time of exercising their franchise.
Passports,driving licenses,income tax identity (PAN) cards,service identity cards of the employees of State and Central government,besides PSUs,passbooks issued by banks and post offices could be shown at pooling booths by the voter to exercise his franchise on May 7,a senior election official said.
Property documents such as registered deed with photograph,pension document,SC/ST/OBC certificates issued by competent authority,pension documents and freedom fighter identity cards are also among prescribed documents to be used as an alternate to EPIC on the voting day.
The presiding officers have also been instructed to accept identities based on arms licenses,job cards issued under NREGA and health insurance scheme cards with photographs.
For the convenience of voters,any of the documents that was available only to the head of the family may also be used for identifying the other members of the family provided all members come together and identified by the head of the family,the official added.
However,the names should be registered in the electoral rolls. Voters who are unaware of their polling station can sms to 53535 by typing their EPIC number. Presently the facility is available only for MTNL subscribers.
