Singh, a 1982-batch UP cadre officer, who has been transferred six times during past one-and-a-half years, and is currently serving as Principal Secretary, Public Enterprises Department.

While Singh requested the teachers to start the evaluation of answer-sheets soon keeping the future of students in mind, he supported their demands saying they “were genuine and only required quick action at the level of the government”. “I have not crossed my boundaries. I have just stretched them a little for the public cause. I am only extending support to the government. I am a public servant just like most of these teachers and no service rule denies an officer from raising an issue of public concern,” Singh told The Indian Express.

He said “because of the deteriorating reputation of UP Board, students remain unemployed then they go on to break ATMs and indulge in all kinds of anti-social activities”.

Singh said a one-and-a-half month of stay in Secondary Education Department as its principal secretary made him see the system’s deterioration.

Asked if there will be a backlash from the state government, he said, “I have been transferred six times in past one-and-a-half years for raising various issues. It is the prerogative of the state and they can do it again if they want to”.
