TV journo arrested for providing info about security movement to rebel groups

NewsLive incidentally is owned by Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, wife of former Assam health minister Himanta Sarma.

A journalist working with a Guwahati-based private satellite TV news channel was arrested in Kokrajhar late last night with police saying he was found to providing information to the extremists about the movement of security forces in advance among other charges.

Assam Police spokesman and AIGP Apurba Jiban Barua said Jaikhlong Brahma, Kokrajhar correspondent of NewsLive, a private TV news channel was also found working for the banned anti-talk faction of NDFB apart from providing advance information of security forces’ movement to the group.

NewsLive incidentally is owned by Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, wife of former Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma who had recently fallen out with chief minister Tarun Gogoi.

“Brahma was also found instigating cadres of the outfit to indulge in violent activities like killing of innocent persons, sources or informers of security forces and burning vehicles on National Highways to create a fear psychosis among the masses, apart from causing breach of public tranquility and glorifying the acts of extremist organizations, Barua said.
