A 45-year-old labourer was Sunday killed by a tiger in Uttarakhand’s Kalagarh area of Jim Corbett Tiger Reserve, about 6 km away from Badhapur forest range of Bijnor where a maneater tigress had killed a farmer two days back.
The forest officials have not been able to confirm if it is the same maneater that is suspected to have killed at least six people in the last over one month. Director Jim Corbett Tiger Reserve Samir Sinha said Ram Charan, who worked as a labourer with the Uttarakhand Irrigation department, was killed by a tiger inside the forest area on Sunday morning.
Ram Charan, while on his way to the work site, had entered the forest area when he was attacked by the tiger, he said. A team of officials has been sent to collect the pugmarks of the tiger to confirm whether it is the maneater from UP or another animal. Sinha said he was collecting the information related to the incident to decide their further strategy as the killings by the maneater has spread fear and anger in the villages on UP-Uttarakhand border.
Two youths Sanjay and Virendra from Ismailpur Dami village of Bijnor claimed to have been attacked by the maneater on Saturday. However, Conservator of Forests (Moradabad circle) Kamlesh Kumar said the duo were attacked by a leopard.
