Three gang members held with arms in Rohtak

The Rohtak police on Wednesday arrested three wanted criminals and recovered five illegal weapons and rounds of ammunition from them.

The Rohtak police on Wednesday arrested three wanted criminals and recovered five illegal weapons and rounds of ammunition from them.

According to the police,the accused had procured weapons from Bihar’s Munger area and come to Haryana with an aim to spread terror in the upcoming municipal corporation polls scheduled in seven districts of the state on June 2.

The accused — Sandeep,Dinesh and Anil — are all members of the Ramesh Lahaur gang known for running an extortion,dacoity and ransom racket in Haryana and neighbouring areas.

Rohtak SP Vivek Sharma said: “Following a tip-off,we had set up a checkpost near the Rohtak sugar mill. When the accused arrived at the spot,both the police and the gang members opened fire and we managed to arrest the three. They were produced in the court,which sent it to three-day custody.”

“During interrogation,they have revealed that they procured the weapons from Bihar and wanted to kill a MC poll candidate’s husband in Rohtak. We have recovered three 9 mm pistols,a .32 bore and 315 bore pistol and 14 rounds of ammunition,” he added.

While Sandeep is facing trial in cases of murder,possessing illegal arms and attempt to murder,Dinesh is facing trial on charges of extortion and passing lewd remarks. Anil,on the other hand,is facing trial in murder,dacoity and extortion cases.

“We have constituted six special teams to arrest the remaining members of this gang,” Sharma said.
