Thackeray’s Mumbai stand against India’s integrity: Narayanan

Flaying Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray’s ‘Mumbai for Marathis’ stand,West Bengal Governor and former National Security Adviser,M K Narayanan,on Monday said such a position would undermine the nation’s integrity.

“If I tend to disagree with the stand adopted by the Shiv Sena chief,I may also be barred from visiting Mumbai,Narayanan said.

Stating that a parochial stand would harm India’s integrity,he said it would be wiser for Thackeray to remember that he also cannot visit other states with such an outlook.

On the Singur issue,he said the Tata group should have assessed the geographical and historical impact before acquiring land to set up their unit for the Nano car project.

“It is a fact that we do not have suitable land to set up industrial units. But we have immense human resources which is our strength,” Narayanan said at a function hosted by the city-based Malabar Chamber of Commerce which is celebrating its year long 80th anniversary.

On the terror attack in Pune,he said it was not practical to enforce stricter security norms on foreign travellers as was being followed in the United States in the larger interest of India’s democratic values.
