‘Stalked’ by 2 youths,girl immolates herself

According to the police,the girl was being stalked and harassed by two youths from her locality for the past couple of weeks. She had told her parents,who warned the boys and their families,but to no avail.

The girl reportedly left home this morning at 8 am to meet a friend. Both the boys again allegedly followed her and passed lewd remarks. She returned home and told her parents about it.

Around noon,the girl again left home and immolated herself. The onlookers tried to douse the flames and save the girl. She was rushed to a hospital in Kalayat,from where she was referred to Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER),Chandigarh,but she died on the way,the police said.

The girl’s body was brought to Kalayat for the post-mortem examination. Her father told the police that both the boys were responsible for his daughter’s suicide. Acting on her father’s complaint,the Kaithal police registered a case against the two youths —- Amit and Vikram —- on charges of abetment of suicide. Raids were being conducted to nab the absconding accused.
