Hospital Superintendent Dr Ashok Gupta told The Indian Express that the next 36 hours are very crucial for her survival. “She had lost a lot of blood when she was brought here. We conducted an emergency surgical procedure yesterday (Friday) that lasted over 3 hours. Her rectal and vaginal walls were severely damaged, leading to fecal discharge,” said Dr Gupta.

“So, we flushed and sanitised her abdomen and created a colostomy. Now her vital signs are stable. We are monitoring her and the next 36 hours would be crucial for her survival,” he added.

H R Kudi, the chairman of the Rajasthan Human Rights Commission who met the victim at the hospital, said, “If what is being said in the newspapers is found to be true after the probe, then it is a damning indictment of our society. I feel ashamed to be a part of this system.”

Besides the pain of such a ghastly crime having been committed on her child, what shocked the 28-year-old mother of the minor was the apathy of the police. The hapless woman was turned away by three police stations and a police chowki near the railway station when she went to report her missing daughter.

“Sab jagah mana kar diya…(I was refused help from everywhere). I went to the police chowki, from where they asked me to go to the Sadar Thana. When I went there, they asked me to go to the Kotwali police station. Finally, my son found her in a heap of garbage,” she said.

“Initially we were very happy that we found her but later realised something was wrong. The doctors at the government hospital in Sikar just gave her an injection and referred her to Jaipur (approximately 120 km away),” she added.
Sikar SP Akhilesh Kumar said two people have been rounded up but no arrests have been made in the case so far.

“We have suspended an assistant sub-inspector at the chowki near the station who turned the woman away. We are trying to find out more about who all turned her away and will take action against them. It is unfortunate they did not help her.”
