Rajya Sabha MPs from the Trinamool Congress met vice-president Hamid Ansari on Friday to complain against the "targeting" of party MPs in the Saradha scam. Though five MPs were supposed to meet the Rajya Sabha chairman, TMC MP K D Singh only turned up when the meeting was over, causing much consternation among his colleagues. Singh claimed that he had got the time of the meeting wrong. Those who turned up for the meeting were Derek O'Brien, Mukul Roy, Jogen Chowdhury, Nadimul Haque and Imran Hassan. Officially, the party maintained that whatever transpired between the vice-president and party MPs is confidential. However, sources said that the party members pointed out that TMC MPs were being targeted because of the aggressive stance the party had taken during the Winter Session of Parliament, especially in the Upper House where the ruling party does not have a majority. Trinamool's attempts to get the Supreme Court to monitor investigations into the chit fund scam have been in vain, with the apex court refusing to intervene. It told the party and the state government that those facing CBI action can seek redress in appropriate fora. The vice-president reportedly told the MPs that he would look into their grievance.
