Police sources said former Ranji and ICL player Baburao Yadav had been detained in Delhi.

Investigators on Monday seized Rs 20 lakh from a cricket kit bag at the home of a relative of arrested player Ajit Chandila, and picked up for questioning a former Ranji and ICL cricketer as the probe into the alleged spot-fixing racket spread deeper and wider.

The Rajasthan Royals, the IPL team to which the three arrested cricketers — S Sreesanth,Ankeet Chavan and Chandila — belong, lodged a complaint with Delhi Police, accusing the cricketers of cheating and other offences.

Police collected the voice samples of Chandila, bookie Manan and Jiju Janardhan,a close friend of Sreesanth’s,at the forensic science laboratory in Rohini, with the intention of matching them with the voices on tape.

BCCI’s anti-corruption unit chief Ravi Sawani, who has been asked to head the board’s probe into the allegations, met Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar and other top officials and offered all help.

Sawani said the BCCI had initiated an internal inquiry, but declined to say when it might be completed. “We will hold a separate disciplinary inquiry and once I submit my report to the disciplinary committee, the BCCI will take appropriate action based on my report. I can’t give you a definite timeframe. It will take some time to collect all the evidence in this matter,” he told reporters.

Police sources said former Ranji Trophy and ICL player Baburao Yadav had been detained in Delhi. According to the sources,Yadav is believed to have arranged a meeting between Chandila and arrested bookie Sunil Bhatia. His name allegedly

figures in the tapped conversations.

Investigators on Monday took Chandila to his aunt’s house in Palwal in Haryana, where they recovered Rs 20 lakh stuffed in a cricket kit bag which also contained Chandila’s personal belongings.

Seventeen people, including past and present players and bookies, have been arrested since last Thursday when the latest scandal in cricket exploded.

Two individuals, one each from Chandigarh and Mumbai,on Monday filed complaints, which police sources said would be added to the case. A PIL was filed in the Supreme Court seeking a stay on the remaining matches of the ongoing IPL until the completion of the probe.

A plea by Sreesanth asking for a copy of the FIR was disposed of by a Delhi court as the cricketer’s lawyer failed to show up.
