RIL officer, CA ‘likely suspects’, says CBI

Seeking extension of custody of two accused in a government documents leak case, the CBI on Thursday told a Delhi court that its probe has revealed that Reliance Industries Ltd’s vice-president (finance) K V Mohanan and prominent Chartered Accountant Rajendra Chitale of Mumbai-based firm Chitale and Associates are “likely suspects’’.

Seeking extension of custody of Mumbai-based CA-cum-consultant Khemchand Gandhi and Paresh Chimanlal Budhdev, partner in Chitale and Associates, the CBI told the special judge that Mohanan and Chitale were required to be confronted with Paresh and Gandhi to unearth the larger conspiracy.

“During the custodial probe, two more suspects Mohanan and Chitale were also called today (March 19) and both suspects are required to be confronted with Khemchand Gandhi and Paresh Chimanlal Budhdev,” the prosecutor said.

The special CBI court extended the custody of Gandhi and Budhdev by two days till March 21. The agency also placed documents containing details of alleged money transactions related to the case and told the court that investigation has revealed that huge amounts were allegedly paid to various persons, including public servants, in lieu of passing on classified documents.

Mohanan and Chitale were examined by CBI officers till 9 pm Thursday.
