Days before his term in Rajya Sabha comes to an end, BSP MP Akhilesh Das Monday announced that he had resigned from the party. “I had submitted my resignation to the BSP president (Mayawati) in Delhi. I have resigned from the primary membership of the party and all other posts,” he said. There was no official reaction from the BSP.
Das who joined BSP in May 2008 when he was inducted by Mayawati at a rally in Lucknow and named party’s national general secretary, was sent to Rajya Sabha few months later.
Ten seats of Rajya Sabha from UP are going for polls on November 20. BSP has not yet announced candidates for the two seats, which it will be able to retain with its strength of 80 members in the Assembly. Mayawati is learnt to have been reluctant to send Das to Rajya Sabha again.
