On day two of PPPs Chintan Ijlas, which concluded in Jalandhar on Tuesday, party chief Manpreet Singh Badal claimed Punjab was the most corrupt state in the country and it was being plundered by the top state leadership.
Taking a dig at the government,Manpreet said: Finance Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa is nothing but mere a munim of Badals, who is only asked to handle expenditure and not the income of the state. He is the only finance minister in the country who does not have revenue collection departments like excise and taxation under him. In such a condition,he cannot make Punjab come out from this financial mess.
Using a couplet,Na idhar udhar ki tu baat kar,ye bata ki kaafila kyun luta. Hamein rahjano se gila nahi, teri rahbari ka sawal hai… (Dont talk about this and that, tell us why the caravan was looted. We have no complaint with the passers-by,it is a question of your leadership),Manpreet added: Mein bataon kafile kayon loote, rahjano se tera tha vasta (I tell you why we were looted, you were hand-in-gloves with the robbers).
People should ask the government what was the outcome of their Goa chitan shivir, which was an insensitive decision at a time when they had no money even to pay salaries for the month of April. This comes at a time when the government has become rich by collecting revenue from liquor vend auction, the PPP chief said.
Manpreet, while submitting a action plan for reforms, said: There are several issues, including financial health, law and order, corruption, agriculture, unemployment, education and industry, which should be given immediate attention by the government.
He added that to ward off the debt crisis,Punjab should start immediate negotiations with the Centre, curb posts of chief parliamentary secretaries and chairpersons by two-third. Similarly, senseless expenses for new fleets of cars or helicopters should be scrapped. Moreover, the police have become a cruel monster and there is need to depoliticise it, said Manpreet.
He also demanded a 90 per cent cut in security personnel for VIPs and their reallocation towards the safety of common people.
