Prompt rescue by locals saved many in Coromandel accident

Policemen and railway police were having a trying time to control the crowd even as VVIPs arrived in hordes to survey the scene. Even people from distant cities like Bhubaneswar and Cuttack were heading for the accident site to witness the post-mishap scene this morning.

Technicians had reached the site promptly with gas cutters to free the trapped passengers and worked through the night to cut open the bogies which had been lying on their sides.

Though,the local people came in for praise from large number of passengers,who were trapped in the bogies,for their timely intervention to rescue them,many of them were still dazed by what they witnessed last night.

“It happened all of a sudden before our very eyes,as the engine and bogies were falling over each other. For some time it appeared as if the area was hit by a dust storm”,a local youth said.
