In its effort to pay tribute to one of the greatest writers,in both Hindi and Urdu,Munshi Premchand, the centre for Indian languages (CIL) of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU),organized a seminar on the subject ‘Premchand and the present times’.

One of the speakers at the seminar,Professor Rambaksh, highlighted the two main categories actively involved in studying the great story-teller. According to him,one category is of the students who study the works of Premchand and pursue research work on the same, while the other is of the literary critics of the great novelist.

Signifying the importance and relevance of this great writer,Prof Rambaksh reminded that a reader of Premchand, apart from reading his myriad life experiences also reads his times and traditions, through his writings. “Premchand called literature a work that expresses the truths of life using the common dialect of the people,” Rambaksh clarified.

The writings of Premchand,he asserted have been a constant source of inspiration for the common people in their fight against the social evils spread in our society.
